In order to develop a conceptual study for the new Dry Dock facility, a reputed consultant for feasibility study and conceptual design was needed to be appointed. KDDL, along with the assistance and consultation of IDLC Finance Limited, has appointed BMT Asia Pacific (BMT) as the consultant for conceptual design along with the market and financial feasibility of the project. The objectives of BMT include:-

  • Design parameters: To establish design data and parameters by fixing the main design parameters which include shipbuilding / repair services, vessel size, vessel type, etc. with regard to the sizing of dock and major yard equipment. The design parameters were done by BMT in co-operation with KDDL considering clients requirements.
  • Outline design development: To develop the outline concept and drawings of the dock and major equipment and local and International codes and standards (primarily BS and / or PIANC) relevant to the design of marine structures. It includes: (i) the general layout of the dry dock, including plan, elevation, and sectional views of the dock; (ii) a master plan for the shipyard including the dock and associated berthing spaces, workshops, cranes, rods  and offices; (iii) the estimated volumes of reinforced concrete and piles necessary for the construction of the dock and berths; as well as (iv) a preliminary project schedule estimate.
  • Preliminary cost estimate of the yard: To estimate the overall CAPEX budget for the new yard based on local unit costs for civil and mechanical work, labor costs, and other unit rates
  • Market study: To study the domestic and international market of Shipbuilding and repairing.
  • Financial model: To prepare the preliminary financial model of the Dry Dock project.
